Discover Your Career

Stage 1 - Understand Your Self

It is difficult to plan a career when careers are changing so rapidly. A Protean career requires you to understand yourself and your options so you can best re-position yourself throughout your career.

Our Process:

Self Discovery is essential throughout the Career Actualization process. During career selection, as you build your portfolio and brand, manage your career and seek to develop new skills and identify new opportunities an understanding of your preferences, needs and skills will enable you to more successfully navigate your career.

Step 1 - An initial assessment appointment of 30-45 minutes. During this meeting we will discuss and explore your ideas and determine an assessment process - including which of the assessment tools will provide us with the best information.

Step 2 - You complete questionnaires or assessment tools. All of our tools are available on-line.

Step 3 - We meet once or twice to review your results during a debrief session(s). This allows you discuss and explore your results to confirm their accuracy and enhance your understanding of the results.

Step 4 - We encourage you to take some time to live with your results and discuss them with others who know you.

Step 5 - We meet to discuss the implications of your results for career selection or career management.

Note: Assessment tools can also be completed as part of the Career Actualization Phase - If you are seeking insights for career management, performance and behaviour change we may meet on an ongoing basis, sometimes for brief consultations of 15 - 20 minutes once or twice a week, to discuss changing behaviour patterns on an ongoing basis.

PHASE 1

Stage 2 - Understand Your Options

The ability to research and evaluate your options will be invaluable to a successful career. Most people select their careers based on limited research and consideration. Most people spend more time planning a vacation than selecting a career!

Many people spend more time researching the amenities of the school they are considering attending, the services, geography, residence, food, than researching the major they are about to embark on.

Research and understanding your self and your options and the ability to do this on an ongoing basis is the KEY to effective career management and actualization.

Understand Your Options

Research, Assess and Evaluate

OUR PROCESS

This process is very nebulous. You will need to revisit it frequently throughout your career. We can brainstorm with you, but we also want to teach you how to undertake this process on your own so you can apply it throughout your career.

Step 1 - Brainstorming and exploration are the key components of this initial step.  In this meeting we can discuss ideas you already have and help you expand the ideas and careers you may be considering.

Step 2 - Staying connected to facilitate ongoing discussion and evaluation so we can supply you with additional ideas. Often this requires a series of brief contacts over a period of a few weeks as you conduct research.

Step 3 - We meet to evaluate and discuss the options you are exploring for the purpose of helping you narrow some of your options

Regardless of your career stage or age accurately assessing  your strengths, needs, preferences and interests is the best way to determine your next move for your career. When you understand yourself you are better prepared to take advantage of opportunities.
